Sale Of ‘Haunted’ Minnesota Sanatorium Is Surprisingly Still Pending
A very unique listing appeared on Zillow late last year that drew a lot of interest, especially from those who are fans of the paranormal. Not only was the property's history of great interest but so was the oddly low asking price.
The listing, located at 10035 Pokegama Lake Road in Pine City, Minnesota, is for a former sanatorium that was built in 1905. It features 12,702 square feet, 36 bedrooms, and 8 baths, and you'd get all of this for just $120,000.
A sanatorium is commonly known as a specialized hospital for the care and treatment of people who are recovering from illness or who have a disease that will last a long time. They're typically located in the countryside, as is the case with this mansion.
This facility closed in 1943 when it was sold to Redemptorist Fathers to be used as a school for priests.
The property would later be used as a chemical dependency treatment center under the name of Pine Manor. Due to financial issues, it closed again in April 1986.
Because of its history and appearance, speculation ran rampant that the property could very well be haunted. That speculation grew once TikTok user Riot Addams posted a video of the Zillow ad for the property, calling it a "zombie fortress".
Of course, a viral video only added to the mystique of this property. That video has been viewed over 6 million times, with countless people saying such a property must have paranormal activity.
Comments like "Sanitarium 😭😭😭 No thank you 😭😭😭 You are starring in that horror movie by yourself 😂" and "Old sanitarium = haunted AF!" are the norm for his video.
However, not everyone is scared. The listing is officially listed as "pending", which means there is an accepted offer and a new owner is ready to buy the property. However, the sale has been pending since February 15, which makes one wonder why it's taking so long to close.
Assuming the sale happens, it will be interesting to see what the new owners have planned for this property.
Despite the condition of this mansion, the location is great with views of Lake Pokegama & the backwaters of the Snake River.
