Taste Your Way Through Sioux Falls’ Best Burgers This January

Ladies and gentlemen, start your appetites!

The New Year isn’t just about resolutions; it’s also about burgers. And with the calendar flipping to January comes the return of the Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle.

The 2026 edition is already shaping up to be a mouthwatering showdown. According to Dakota News Now, 50 different burgers will compete for bragging rights as the best burger in downtown Sioux Falls when the Burger Battle officially kicks off on Thursday, January 1.

Participating restaurants, along with other downtown businesses, are hoping for a strong turnout and increased foot traffic, which is a win for everyone involved (especially anyone who enjoys eating their way through January).

Tami Brown, owner of The Spice & Tea Exchange of Sioux Falls, told Dakota News Now the event brings in plenty of new faces. Since her shop isn’t exactly equipped with a grill, she’s getting creative instead.

“We can’t make burgers, we’re not a restaurant, and we wouldn’t want to compete with our restaurant friends,” Brown said.

Instead, every Saturday in January, her shop will host a meatball tasting contest, adding to the fun without stealing the burger spotlight. Her goal? To crown a winning seasoning by the end of the month.

So burger lovers, consider this your official warning: downtown Sioux Falls is about to serve up a lineup of juicy, creative, and possibly nap-requiring burgers during the 2026 Burger Battle.

Each participating restaurant will offer a unique burger from January 1 through January 31, and you can rank and vote for your favorites right from your phone at www.passport.dtsf.com.
