Stampede Top USHL In Attendance For The First Time In Team History
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- The Sioux Falls Stampede finished the 2013-14 regular season with the top attendance in the United States Hockey League.
It marks the first time in franchise history the club finished the year with the best attendance in the league.
A total of 127,709 fans cheered on the Herd for an average of 4,257 per-game, the highest average in the USHL since the 2008-09 season. The club averaged 614 more fans per-game than the next closest team and raised their average attendance by 9% from a season ago. Sioux Falls had a team record nine sellouts during the year and 22 games with crowds of over 4,000 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
The Herd also had two record setting nights at the Arena. 4,815 fans were in attendance to see the Stampede top Fargo 5-3 on February 22nd. That record was then broken on March 28th when 4,827 fans cheered on the Stampede against Sioux City.
“Our entire ownership group could not be more thrilled with leading the league in attendance this year,” said Stampede CEO/President Tom Garrity. “It is truly a testament to our great fans and corporate partners that have supported us each and every night. We hope to continue this momentum through the playoffs and into next season when we begin play at the state-of-the-art Denny Sanford Premier Center.”
The Herd’s total attendance of 127,709 is the second highest in franchise history. The record is 132,903 fans in 2001-02, a season in which the club played 31 home games.
The Stampede begin the 2014 Clark Cup Playoffs this Friday in Waterloo for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals at 7:05 PM. Game 2 is slated for Saturday night before the series shifts to Sioux Falls for Game 3 on Thursday, April 17th and, if necessary, Game 4 on Friday, April 18th.
