2016 Winter Classic Was A Hit Once Again
It continues to be a tradition in the NHL and the Winter Classic continues to be a big hit.
The idea of outside hockey dates back to the infancy of the sport and the NHL adopted the idea in 2008 and play these games around New Year's.
The first game was between the Sabers and Penguins and this year's matchup was the Canadians and Bruins at Gillette Stadium.
The first game was a 2-1 win in a overtime shootout for the Penguins while today we saw a 5-1 win for the Canadians.
My favorite part of the event is the fact that you are able to pull this off in a stadium setting and bring light to a sport that plays second and third fiddle to football and basketball this time of year.
A great marketing idea by the NHL that has turned into a great sporting tradition each holiday season.
Another hit in 2016 as it was a good compliment to al the football going on in the bowl games in college football.
