Since 2001, former Washington High School Athletic Director Wayne Carney has held the role of Executive Director of the SDHSAA, but now we know his replacement.

Carney announced his pending retirement last June and the process began to find his replacement.

McCook Central Superintendent Dan Swartos has been named the new Executive Director of the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

According to reports from the Argus Leader, the SDHSAA board of directors voted to hire Swartos to replace Carney.

Swartos is 36 and was one of three finalists for the gig, as was Tom Culver of Avon and Jason Uttermark of Aberdeen Central.

Swartos will begin his new role on July 1st, 2017.
