Former Augustana Standout Cody Schilling Named Men’s Basketball Coach at Mount Marty
A former star college basketball player in South Dakota is making the transition into college coaching, as former Augustana guard Cody Schilling has been named the ninth men's basketball head coach at Mount Marty College in Yankton.
Schilling takes over a struggling Lancer program that has won just 11 games in the past four seasons, and is currently in the midst of a 63-game losing streak in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. He replaces Andrew Baker, who was let go by the school earlier this month.
As a player at Augie, Schilling was a four-year starter and a three-time NSIC First Team All-Conference, three-time First Team All-Central Region, two-time Division II Honorable Mention All-American selection. He finished his career as the Vikings all-time leading scorer.
In high school, Schilling was the 2008 Associated Press Minnesota Player of the Year and graduated from Ellsworth High School as the state’s all-time leader in career points and career assists.
His previous coaching experience has come at the high school level, during a stint at Dell Rapids St. Mary's. Schilling has also served as a trainer at TIBBS Basketball Academy in Sioux Falls, where he conducted basketball camps in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Nebraska and worked under current Portland Trailblazers assistant coach Nate Tibbetts.
