Former South Dakota State Center Clarissa Ober to Play Professionally in Germany

One of the best defensive players in South Dakota State women's basketball history is taking her game overseas.

Clarissa Ober has signed a professional contract with ChemCats of Chemnitz, Germany, in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga's first division, the highest league in German basketball.

The two-time Summit League Defensive Player of the Year finished her college career number two all-time at SDSU in blocked shots, 13th all-time in the Summit League.

Her pro career will be begin with pre-season workouts in August. The regular season opens at the end of September.

Last season, the ChemCats went 8-14, finishing eighth in the 12-team DBBL. As the eight seed in the playoffs, they were swept in the opening round by eventual league champion, Wasserburg. The ChemCats were led by player-coach Amanda Davidson, an American, who played her college ball at Division II Indianapolis.

Chemnitz is a city of about 205,000, about an hour southwest from Dresden. Before the Iron Curtain came down, the city was known as Karl-Marx-Stadt, in what was then East Germany.
