Legendary Twin Cities Sports Writer Sid Hartman Passes Away at Age 100

If you have lived in Minnesota or the region and followed sports over the last 50 years you have probably heard the name Sid Hartman.

The longtime Twin Cities sports writer passed away along side his family on Sunday at the age of 100.

His name was synonymous with the sports scene in the Twin Cities and had been for many years.

During his time at the Star Tribune, the outlet says he wrote over 21,000 stories, 119 in 2020 and his final piece was published on Sunday.

After circling back to the Twin Cities many times for my current job covering sports in the area, I had many instances where I was in the presence of a legend in the business in many press boxes.

My favorite moment came at a Minnesota Gophers game a few years ago in a season where Mitch Leidner had been having some ups and downs with the passing game.

Leidner completed a touchdown and Sid yells out, "Looks like Tom Brady".

Normally in a press box a outburst like that would be viewed as a violation of the sacred "no cheering" section of the rule book, but Hartman's remark was met with laughter and to this day is my favorite moment in a press box.

Hartman contributed to many platforms in the Twin Cities over the years but he will be remembered for his words on paper that so many sports fans read for decades.

The sports world lost a good one today, but his legacy will live on in the Twin Cites, that's for sure!
