MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota has named Brandum Eggum the acting coach of a wrestling program under investigation for an alleged prescription drug ring.

The university announced the appointment Monday. Athletic director Mark Coyle said the investigation made it "important to have clear and continued leadership" for the program.

Coach J Robinson was placed on administrative leave two months ago, following a team member's allegation that Robinson tried to cover up the widespread sale and use of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax by some of his wrestlers. Robinson has denied wrongdoing through his attorney. The university's internal investigation is ongoing.

Eggum was a three-time All-American wrestler for the Gophers who joined the coaching staff in 2001 immediately after his career ended. He's been on staff for each of the program's three national championships.
