My Favorite Things About Each of the Minor League Teams in Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls South Dakota has a vast history of minor league teams and titles from those teams in their respective sports.
It has brought national attention to our city and so many memories over the years.
Here is a list of my favorite part of each of the minor league teams in Sioux Falls.
1. Sioux Falls Skyforce - The Pro's. It is the closest thing we have to professional sports in Sioux Falls. The fact that many current and former NBA players have either played for or against the Skyforce is really cool. I don't think the entire community realizes how special this is. The fact that the NBA D-League continues to value the Skyforce as a staple in semi-pro basketball along with the fact that the Miami Heat continue to be the NBA affiliate is a testament to ownership and the organization as a whole.
2. Sioux Falls Canaries - The Birdcage. Location is always debatable amongst fans as many would like it to be downtown, but for a team that is in Independent baseball and not an affiliated team with the major leagues, it certainly serves its purpose and it has some cool features. The berm is a neat location for families with kids to spread out while enjoying the game. The all you can eat and drink outfield section is a hit amongst those looking for a nightlife option as well. Tons of parking and good vantage points throughout the stadium make it a great part of Canaries baseball.
3. Sioux Falls Storm - The titles. They keep winning and winning and winning. Title after title and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon unless they were to quit playing all together. Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs continues to find the right mix of players to fit his winning ways. Overall they have won 10 championships with streaks consisting of 2005-2008 and 2011-2016.
4. Sioux Falls Stampede - The Crowds. Hockey for me in general is the best sport to attend LIVE and Stampede hockey lives up to the billing. When you are at a game at the Denny Sanford Premier Center and 9,000+ screaming fans are going nuts, you'll understand. Hockey in South Dakota isn't hockey in Minnesota, but the fans of the Stampede would sure fool ya as they always bring their A game.
