SDHSAA Cancels Spring Contests/Practices Through April, State Events Determined Soon
South Dakota High School Activities Association Director Dan Swartos has provided an update regarding practices and contests in the month of April, and the continued postponements for state events.
In a press release sent out, Swartos says that all spring contests and practices in the month of April have been canceled. This decision has been made in conjunction with Governor Kristi Noem's direction to close schools through May 1st.
The current fate of postponed events of state basketball, visual arts, region music, and all-state band will be decided soon at the SDHSAA Board of Directors meeting. That meeting time has not been set, but the SDHSAA will meet in the "coming days."

"In response to Governor Noem's direction of school closure through May 1st, all SDHSAA spring sports practices and competitions are canceled through Sunday, May 3rd.
The SDHSAA Board of Directors will meet in the coming days to decide on the 2020 Spring Sports season, as well as the suspended/postponed events of State Basketball, Visual Arts, Region Music, and All-State Band. That agenda will be posted to the SDHSAA website when it is finalized and advanced notice of the meeting will be given per South Dakota Codified Law. The meeting will be held via teleconference and will be live-streamed for the public.
We thank everyone for their patience during this unprecedented period."
All state events are currently on hold due to the Coronavirus outbreak. We will update you as more information is presented.
