A dominating performance by South Dakota quarterback Austin Simmons has earned him Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors.

The senior from Council Bluffs, Iowa is the league's top offensive player after running nine times for a career-high 138 yards and touchdowns of four, 37 and 44 yards in the Coyotes' 38-0 win over Indiana State, Saturday (October 5), in Vermillion.


On a day where USD racked up 522 yards against the nation’s 15th-ranked defense, Simmons' 348 yards of total offense was the third-best in the Missouri Valley this year.

Last season, Simmons led the Valley and ranked sixth in the nation for total offense (314 yards per game). He was the MVFC and National Player of the Week after throwing for a season-high 462 yards with four touchdowns in the 2018 home opener against Northern Colorado.

Also honored, Coyote redshirt freshman right tackle Isaac Erbes is the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.

The 2019 Coyotes (2-3 overall/1-0 MVFC) are back in action Saturday (October 12) at Missouri State. Kickoff is 2:00 PM in Springfield.
