The summer of 1998 was the greatest summer of baseball ever.

The home run chase between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa took baseball to a interest level that it hasn't seen since.

I watched that summer with some much interest and intrigue and shared those sentiments with my Grandpa who was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.

While we were rooting for both of them to continue to hit homers, we both were pulling for McGwire to end up on top.

And that's exactly what happened.

McGwire ended up with a record 70 home runs and became the single season home run king only to be surpassed by Barry Bonds a few years later.

For our Throwback Thursday this week, take a look back at baseball's best summer and all 70 home runs from Mark McGwire.
