Same Pattern Different Result as Skyforce Holds off Charge
One night after giving up a lead and getting nipped by a point, surrender was not an option. The Sioux Falls Skyforce responded in triplicate and topped the Canton Charge 103-100 at Canton Memorial Civic Center Saturday night.
Some similarities were hard to ignore from one night to the next. A big first quarter lead that grew steadily through the second quarter, then a second half comeback for the hosts were a part of both contests on this eastern swing.
One major difference that surfaced was Sioux Falls (15-15) and their success with the outside shot in the fourth quarter. Six went down from long range including four of them by Matt Williams, Jr. to hold the Charge (11-17) at bay. The Skyforce only posted two buckets from two-point rance in the final frame with the first by Alonzo Gee with 2:05 to go.
Another facet that delineated from the game one night earlier in Fort Wayne was since Sioux Falls scored the first seven points of the game Canton never laid claim to the lead. With 2:28 remaining, the lead was only a single tally at 96-95, but there was never a time in that crucial phase when the Charge had the ball with the chance to take the lead.
Gee topped the scoring chart for the visitors with 23 points on 7-8 shooting. Meanwhile Ike Nwamu & Williams each hit 5 bombs to finish with 19 and 17 points respectively. A.J. Hammons continued his strong play with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Larry Drew II had a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists.
Only two Charge players scored in double digits but both were monster efforts. Marcus Thornton posted 35 and John Holland netted 24 points.
Canton’s next outing will arrive on Tuesday when they travel to Westchester. Sioux Falls will be on the road for another week as they trek to the Metroplex to meet the Texas Legends.
