A Summit League team won't cut down the nets at the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but the conference has two good chances at winning another post season event.

The Summit qualified a trio of teams in the FOX Sports' College Basketball Team Nickname Bracket, including a pair a number-one seeds.

South Dakota State grabbed a number-four seed in the 'Friendly & Funny' Region.

It's a bit of redemption for the Jackrabbits after a writer at a Washington newspaper called the mascot 'ridiculous' in a story last week.

The Jacks scored an opening round win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, but lost in a mild, round two upset to the fifth-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters.

Still alive in the 'Sweet 16' are the top-seeded Western Illinois Leathernecks in the 'Strong & Virtuous' Region.

The school has shared the mascot with the United States Marine Corps since 1927, when then-athletic director Ray Hanson got permission to use the nickname as a homage to his service in the Marines during World War I.

The 'Necks are up against the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest  in round three.

The Summit League's other top seed are the Mastodons of Fort Wayne.

The nickname was inspired by the 1968 discovery of a mastodon bone in nearby Angola, Indiana.

The 'Dons are the team to beat in the 'Formidable & Scary' Region, where they face the Thundering Herd of Marshall in the 'Sweet 16'.

It's no surprise the Summit League is excelling in this field. The Jackrabbit, Leatherneck, and Mastodon nicknames aren't used by any other colleges at any level. South Dakota, meanwhile, is the only school in Division I to use a Coyote as its mascot.
