Summit League Women’s Basketball Reaching New Heights
Summit League women's basketball is reaching new heights with record-setting results in the RPI rankings.
As of March 3, four Summit League women's teams sit inside the RPI Top 70, according to Collegiate Basketball News. Six Summit League schools rank inside the RPI Top 160.
Before the 2016-17 season, the Summit League had never finished the basketball season with more than two teams ranked in the RPI Top 100. Now, the league is likely to break that previous record and double it.
As a league, the Summit League ranks 11th in total RPI in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The league's previous best finish at the end of a season was 16th (1996-97 and 2015-16).
South Dakota State owns the Summit League's highest RPI ranking this season at No. 33. IUPUI sits at No. 60, South Dakota ranks No. 61 and Western Illinois comes in at No. 69.
This season also marks only the third time ever that the Summit League had four teams break the 20-win barrier.
