With the combined basketball tournaments coming to an end after this year, the Sanford Pentagon has jumped at the opportunity to host the Class AA Girls Basketball Tournament in 2021.

News regarding moving away from the combined tournament format began this past offseason. The decision would move the Class AA and A tournaments back to the same weekend as Class B girls, one week earlier than the boy's tournaments, and each tournament would take place in separate facilities.

The SDHSAA has approved that the 2021 Class AA Girls Basketball State Tournament will be played at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. Also approved in the meeting was setting the A tournament in Watertown and the B tournament in Huron. The tournaments will be played on March 11-13, 2021.

This will be the first time that the Pentagon has had the chance to host a state tournament for the SDHSAA. The Pentagon has done a fantastic job hosting high school events since the venue opened in 2013. Each year the Pentagon holds a few all-day classics, and they also host a Roosevelt/O'Gorman doubleheader each season.

Also in 2021, Rapid City's new arena "The Monument" will host the Class AA boys tournament, while the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center hosts Class A. Class B boys will be played in Aberdeen.
