The State Farm College Slam Dunk & Three-Point Championships turns 30 year and for the second straight year a member of the University of South Dakota's men's team is in the competition.

Coyote senior Carlton Hurst is one of eight participants in the slam dunk championship, which takes place Thursday, March 29, at St. Mary’s University's Bill Greehey Arena, in San Antonio.

The Denver native averaged six points and four rebounds a game in two seasons at USD after transferring from Colorado State following the 2014-15 season. He missed 13 games in 2017-18 due to a hand injury, but returned to play in the Coyotes’ final four games of the season.

Last year, South Dakota's Tyler Flack participated in the dunk competition, narrowly missing out on the finals. He placed third in the event after executing a 540-degree dunk.

This year's event will broadcast nationally on ESPN2 at 8:00 PM, March 29.
